How We Work

Teach Memphis is Shelby County Schools' recruitment campaign and application portal.  Teach Memphis is operated by the Office of Strategic Teacher Recruitment and Staffing, which recruits, selects and staffs all classroom teaching positions as well as librarians and guidance counselors for Shelby County Schools. 

Teachmemphis.org provides key information for applicants from all backgrounds - certified teachers, transfer teachers as well as recent graduates and career changing professionals who want to make a difference in our community by becoming teachers with Memphis City Schools through an alternate route program. 

The Teach Memphis application process has recently been overhauled to align with the Teacher Effectiveness Measure with an eye on increasing the number of effective teachers leading instruction in SCS classrooms.  Central to this shift is a new application process that is more rigorous and a new staffing model that better aligns talented teachers to opportunities to improve student achievement in an urban school district.

Our work is guided by four key principals:

  • There is no more important factor to student success than the teacher who is leading the classroom.
  • Teachers are professionals, and their work is critical. Therefore, we have increased the rigor of the application processes and have raised the bar in our selection model.
  • To be effective, teachers need to work in an environment where they want to be and where they are wanted. We do our best to facilitate strong matches between teachers and school hiring teams.
  • Applying for any new job or position is stressful, especially applying to a large school district. That's why we emphasize providing strong customer service and speedy response to applicants during this time.
