Being a teacher in a High Priority school requires an unyielding commitment to student achievement. Memphis City Schools recently launched a new campaign to recognize outstanding teachers district-wide and allow teachers to pledge their commitment to student achievement. The I Teach. I Am. campaign focuses on the following nine pillars when identifying great teachers:

1. Accepting no excuses

2. Taking responsibility for student growth

3. Mastering pedagogy as well as content knowledge

4. Continuously developing one’s own skills and professionalism

5. Leading the classroom

6. Engaging students at all levels of ability

7. Building strong relationships with students

8. Working collaboratively

9. Strengthening trust-based relationships with families
