Striving School Zone

The Striving School Zone (SSZ) is a turnaround strategy created by Memphis City Schools to aid schools that have not met Adequate Yearly Progress for at least the past four years. The goal of the SSZ is to lift student achievement in those schools and close the achievement gap between them and the highest performing schools in MCS. Below are some of the resources that campuses in the Striving Schools Zone are offered on top of the regular support that all MCS schools receive.

Supplemental specialized professional development for teachers
Content area SWAT teams
An expanded visual and performing arts curriculum
A formative assessment strategy that includes common assessments and professional development on how to interpret and use the data
Merit based awards programs

Striving School Zone schools can be found in every region of the district and each has its own diverse culture within the school and within its community.
