Become a Teacher

Memphis' schools are only as good as the teachers in its classrooms. Given the opportunity and the right training, talented and driven individuals who do not have a background in education can become extraordinarily effective and valuable teachers.  Teach Memphis selects candidates with demonstrated success in other careers and a deep commitment to teaching in Memphis City Schools for years to come.  For professionals with expertise in our high-need subject areas - math, chemistry, special education, middle school, Spanish and French - we offer the opportunity to apply for acceptance into the Memphis Teaching Fellows program, which includes participation in an intensive six-week summer Institute at no cost to Fellows as an initial preparation for a career in teaching.  If accepted, Memphis Teaching Fellows will begin teaching (and be paid like any other first year teacher) in the fall. Interested?  Click here to learn more about the Memphis Teaching Fellows program and if it is right for you.

We also accept applications from partner programs including Teach for America and the Memphis Teacher Residency.  Information on those programs can be found by clicking the links to the left of this page.

If you are not enrolled in Memphis Teaching Fellows or in our partner programs, you may still apply to teach with Memphis City Schools as an alternate route teachers.  The process for alternate route teachers is outlined below:
