Professional Development
Memphis City Schools is committed to ensuring that all of our teachers have opportunities to learn the latest teaching strategies and best practices. MCS provides extensive on-going professional development and training for teachers through the districts’ Teaching & Learning Academy.
Staff Development Coordinators provide instructional support through professional development to administrators and teachers across the district. Instructional support includes:
- Planning professional development that aligns with school improvement plans;
- Assisting teachers with the teacher evaluation process;
- Researching best practices, quality literature and research-based instructional strategies teachers can implement to increase student achievement;
- Working jointly with district personnel (Human Resources, Academic Superintendents, etc.) to provide support for district policies and initiatives; and
- Working closely with content area staff development coordinators and New Teacher Induction Staff Development Coordinators conducting workshops during in-services and other network sessions.
Additionally, a professional development catalog is created and organized by staff development coordinators three times a year for teachers and administrators.
