Elementary & Early Childhood Teachers

You must be fully certified in Elementary or Early Childhood education to be considered for positions with Memphis City Schools.  We do not consider candidates eligible only for alternative licenses in this area.  You must possess a standard, highly qualified Tennessee license and have completed all necessary Tennessee licensure requirements, including passing the required PRAXIS exams.  Out-of-state applicants must have a standard out-of-state teaching license and have completed all necessary Tennessee licensure and highly qualified requirements to be eligible for positions.

We strongly encourage all elementary teachers to consider becoming highly qualified to teach middle grades, as there is a much larger need for middle grade educators in Memphis.  Professional or Apprentice K-8 licenses in TENNESSEE are not considered highly qualified for Middle Grades.  All middle grades teachers must be highly qualified in one or all of the four content areas: Language Arts, Social Studies, Science or Math.  To become highly-qualified in grades 6-8, you must complete the Middle School Content Knowledge PRAXIS exams (#0146) or one of the four subject-specific Middle Grades PRAXIS exams.
